This twelve-hour series examines how thirteen colonies on the Atlantic Coast united in rebellion, won their independence, and established a republic that still endures. The film follows dozens of figures from a wide variety of backgrounds, drawing on thousands of images, maps, archival documents, as well as interviews with leading scholars of the Revolutionary era. It offers an expansive, evenhanded look at the virtues and the contradictions in the fight for independence and the birth of the United States.
