Poem of the Month: Popcorn in the Pot

Did you know that the first Thanksgiving feast was held to celebrate the Plymouth colony’s first corn harvest? “Popcorn in the Pot” is part of the Grade K Whole-Class Resources kit but can be enjoyed by children and teachers of all ages!

While it’s unlikely that the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag people enjoyed popcorn the way we do today (their corn was typically ground and cooked into bread or porridge), this poem is still a great way to celebrate their friendly alliance and its legacy.

It’s also a fantastic way to get the wiggles out as temperatures drop and holiday excitement soars. Invite children to jiggle and pop along with the poem as you use the built-in five-day lesson plan to focus on a different teaching opportunity each day.
