As a teacher who has shared his story with countless students, I’m struck again and again by the depth and complexity of his life: a man of vision, resilience, and sacrifice. His words and actions remind us that progress is possible, even in the face of overwhelming obstacles. Our world would look very different without Dr. King’s courage, and that is why the holiday designated in his honor must be more than a day off. Martin Luther King Jr. Day should be a day of reflection, celebration, and action.
