3 Techniques for Providing Students With Feedback

Teachers can take a conversational approach to giving academic and behavioral feedback, helping students focus on what they can do next. Giving feedback on academic or behavioral issues can be stressful for students and teachers alike. However, there are ways to make the process feel supportive and affirming. Feedback is most effective when delivered in an environment that emphasizes care and not just compliance. Students feel supported and more comfortable engaging in learning in classrooms where educators cultivate unconditional positive regard, or valuing and accepting each student as a person worthy of respect and empathy regardless of their current behavior, performance, or circumstances.
