The goal of this map and the accompanying web site is to locate places dark enough where you can see stars in all their glory.
The map also points out the problem of light pollution. Even driving 50 miles away from a major city isn’t enough to clearly see the stars. There are some countries, especially in Europe, where the inhabitants can never really “see” the night sky. And that will change your perspective on life.
As the site says, if you have never seen a clear, starry sky from a place devoid of light pollution then you don’t know what you’re missing.
