Even imagining their potential is not on the radar for young women who lack role models. The biographies of 143 women scientists prior to modern times have been collected at ASTR.
While we don’t advocate distorting history from one gender perspective and even contributing to de facto segregation by ethnic or gender role models, nonetheless some compensation for past wrongs is called for. It is nice to know that 100’s of women have advanced science thru the ages.
